Sanders was offered the cover for Black Stache, played originally by Christian Borle of Smash fame , and he decided to move from Chicago to New York because he absolutely loved the play and wanted to be a part of it. After being with the Broadway production for eight months, Sanders left to do Matilda but then received the offer to play Black Stache in the National Tour and he jumped at the opportunity to play such a delicious character. Everyone wants to believe someone can fly. That means doing squats and carrying people and pushing things back and forth, all in a very fast-paced environment. We started every rehearsal with a minute workout session that would get us ready for what we needed to do in the show. Playing Black Stache affords him the chance to chew the scenery a bit and have some fun with the audience during the pivotal scene when he loses his hand and transforms into Captain Hook.

How did the Lost Boys arrive on the island? Who is Captain Hook and how did he lose his hand? Whether it was due to opening week jitters or a fast rehearsal schedule, the pacing of the first act felt jerky. Visually and technically, Peter and the Starcatcher was up to audience expectations for the Hale. The costumes, designed by Peggy Willis , were simple, effective and never distracted from the story. Special note must go to the prop designer, who with surprising efficacy, visually represented the child-like awe of creating a play with friends in an attic or basement, as all the props were either made out of old clothes, like the jungle vine or thrown away stuffed animals including an unmissable cat.
December in Musical Theater Major. Hello all, While I'm not applying to be a musical theatre major, I am applying to be a directing major, and apparently some schools namely, NYU still require you to audition with a monologue in addition to your portfolio review. Now, I'm kind of at a loss. I know many, many shows, but for the life of me I cannot think of a single contemporary play with a solid monologue for a teenage girl. The closest I could think of is one of Molly's monologues from Peter and the Starcatcher, but I'm hesitant to use it for a number of reasons one, it's a modern, popular play, two, she's technically thirteen, not seventeen, and three, she's British. Obviously, acting isn't my strong suit.
