I'm battling severe depression, and I haven't accomplished anything with my life. But physically don't feel depressed. I'm 27, depressed, and feel like I've wasted my life.

The clinical definition below states that anhedonia is a loss of interest in activities that used to be enjoyable, and a reduced capacity to feel pleasure. The Diagnostic Manual of the American Psychiatric Association lists it as a symptom of depression, and not a specific disorder by itself. As a result, they are often treated together as one condition. Positive Emotional Flatlining is a term I created because anhedonia was close to what I experienced, but not exactly. I found two significant differences as follows. A physical condition that blocks the reward-system positive-feeling neurochemicals while the threat-response mechanisms continue to work and create negative feelings.

In a very basic way, we are motivated to get out of bed. But we are also motivated to go to work , to see our friends , and to have goals. Low motivation means we feel uninterested in doing things. We avoid our friends, stop going to the gym at all, go to work only if we have to, and possibly start to self-sabotage.

Dear Lifehacker, Lately I've been completely unmotivated to do anything. Getting things done at work is a challenge, and it's even worse at home. My apartment is becoming a mess, I never cook anymore, and I've been unable to keep up a healthy diet. I don't feel depressed or all that unhappy—just very unmotivated. Posted March 26, I don't have any idea of what is wrong with me. First thing first's,I am not suffering from depression. To be honest I was suffering from depression and anhedonia for a good period of time,but now I am alright. Please don't make this kind of assumptions. So,my problem is that I don't want anything,I have no desires or wishes.
