The series aired on NBC from April 9, to February 24, , for episodes, over seven seasons. The writers researched local California politics for the series, and consulted with urban planners and elected officials. The writing staff incorporated current events into the episodes, such as a government shutdown in Pawnee inspired by the real-life global financial crisis of The series received mixed reviews during its first season, but, after a re-approach to its tone and format, the second and subsequent seasons were widely acclaimed. The first season focuses on Leslie Knope , the deputy director of the Parks and Recreation Department in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. Local nurse Ann Perkins demands that the construction pit beside her house created by an abandoned condo development be filled in after her boyfriend, Andy Dwyer , fell in and broke his legs.
A sitcom about local government employees in the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana, Parks and Recreation started with more of a whimper than a bang. It was created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, who both worked on the American version of The Office, and in its six-episode first season, the central character, deputy department director Leslie Knope Amy Poehler was just another ambitious but barely competent boss. Her enthusiasm was infectious. After the show added Adam Scott and Rob Lowe as auditors Ben and Chris, who arrived to help with the budget crisis, the chemistry really clicked, and seasons two to five were as good as sitcom gets, featuring characters who made us laugh and in whose lives we felt invested. Leslie was close to all her colleagues, especially Ron, whom she won over through force of personality, and devoted to her best friend Ann Rashida Jones , a nurse and health department agent. Poehler, who starred as the perky local politician Leslie Knope, added that her role even benefitted her well-being offscreen. In addition to Offerman and Swanson, the staunchly Libertarian, always-positive parks department director Chris Traeger and Lowe also paralleled each other. According to Schur, the close friendship between Poehler and Jones formed the basis for the fierce bond between their characters Knope and Ann Perkins. In another reflection of modern politics ahead of its time, the fourth season of the series had Knope pitted against Bobby Newport Paul Rudd , the dim-witted heir to a rich family, in a city council election.

So obviously, we're all holding our breath waiting for the news that Leslie Knope and the gang will be reuniting for a Parks and Recreation revival series, right?
