Six contestants, three dances, but only one man bun. Finally, after two weeks of feeling inferior while watching talented adults do incredible things, the Olympics is over. Still reeling from the loss of Jordan before the break? The Top 6 are each performing once alongside their all-star in their genre of dance, once partnered together in a new genre, and on top of that, a solo. What are our guesses?

First up were year-old RJ and year-old Jake. The two performed a Magic Mike- esque Hip-Hop routine, impressing the judges with how in sync they were. This duo is setting the bar high for New York! Next up was year-old Latin ballroom dancer, Ruby. The reigning United States Junior Champion in Latin Ballroom, and one of the taller kids to audition, Ruby used her height to her advantage in her routine, adding in some extra hairography as well.

This is the Academy, where graduation is based solely on merit. On day 1 alone, participants are slashed to 50, as the 10 All-Stars select five dancers per team. Math is a class at the Academy. Think about it. Maddie Ziegler is backstage and ready to mingle. Team Kathryn Contemporary : The dancers start their Academy experience by performing solos for a panel of All-Stars, who whittle down their favorites to a list of five dancers and two alternates.

The show premiered on Monday, May 30, in a new format featuring dancers between ages 8 to 13 at the time of their auditions. The season was broadcast on Fox in the United States, one show each week on Mondays, as it was the previous season. Series creator and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe , along with new permanent members Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo , returned as members of the permanent judging panel and judge the audition rounds. After this, the fourth judge, dancer Maddie Ziegler , who was then 13 years old, joined the show. Season 13 featured a significant shift in format in that the contestants were all between the ages of 8 and 13 at the time of their auditions. Approximately dancers were selected from the auditions for the next segment of the season, the Dance Academy. From these, the top 50 were chosen, and finally the top 10 were selected as finalists by a So You Think You Can Dance "all-star" who provided mentorship during the live shows and participated as a duet partner with his or her contestant in performances.
